The PROPEL Center had the distinct honor of joining the San Francisco Human Rights Commission in celebrating the culmination of the inaugural Black 2 San Francisco (B2SF) Summer Internship Program. Held on July 25, 2024, at the Bespoke Event Space, this remarkable event highlighted the achievements and transformative experiences of 67 brilliant HBCU students from 17 institutions across the nation.
This summer, B2SF scholars immersed themselves in an enriching program designed to foster growth, build connections, and empower the next generation of leaders. Their dedication and passion were evident as they showcased their projects and shared their learnings during the event.
In the words of Sheryl Davis, Executive Director of the San Francisco Human Rights Commission, “There is a secret sauce, a special sauce that lives within HBCUs. We want to ensure that we get that on our hamburgers out here.” This initiative is part of a broader effort led by Mayor London Breed to bring a Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCU) satellite campus to downtown San Francisco. The goal is to revitalize the city’s economic core by transforming vacant spaces into vibrant academic hubs that connect HBCU students with local industries.
The celebration featured inspiring presentations from interns, remarks from distinguished guests and mentors, and a reception with light refreshments, providing ample networking opportunities for all attendees.
As part of our ongoing commitment to fostering educational excellence and community upliftment, the PROPEL Center is excited about exploring deeper collaboration opportunities with the B2SF initiative. We are particularly eager to find ways to support this outstanding cohort of students and enhance our partnership with the San Francisco Human Rights Commission.
Stay tuned for more updates and pictures from this transformative experience. If you see someone you know, tag them! We look forward to continuing this journey and making a lasting impact together.
Thank you to Dr. Sheryl Davis and Dr. Saidah Leatutufu-Burch for extending the invitation to be part of this historic event. We are thrilled to support and celebrate the bright futures of these talented HBCU students.
